Honour promises to Kashmiris, IIOJK Congress chief tells Modi regime
Srinagar: Occupied Jammu and Kashmir Congress Committee chief Tariq Hameed Karra has urged Indian regime to fulfill its promise of restoring statehood and constitutional guarantees to the people of the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking to the media in Srinagar on Monday, Karra emphasized that this demand was not merely a protest but a principled stance rooted in the commitments made by the BJP government in 2019.
Karra remarked, “Even before, during, and after the elections, we strongly demanded that our rights and guarantees, which were snatched away in 2019, must be restored. Statehood and constitutional guarantees were promised to us, but those promises have only become empty words.”
He called for immediate action to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, pointing out that the New Delhi had repeatedly assured the people of the territory, yet those promises have yet to materialize.
Describing the delay as an affront to the people’s emotions, aspirations, and democratic rights, Karra said, “This voice from Srinagar is being sent to the deaf and blind who choose to ignore it.” He expressed disappointment over the Modi government’s dismissive attitude, stressing that it could not persist indefinitely.
Referring to the Indian Supreme Court’s directives, Karra highlighted two key issues: the immediate conduct of elections in IIOJK and the restoration of statehood. “If you cannot uphold your promises as a moral responsibility, then at least respect the directions of the Supreme Court,” he added.
