Merit is being killed in IIOJK: Mehbooba Mufti
Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has strongly criticized the IIOJK authorities for neglecting merit system, stating that merit is being killed in occupied territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mehbooba Mufti, while speaking to journalists in Srinagar, stated that despite the National Conference (NC) having three Members of Parliament (MPs) and 50 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), the issues of merit and reservation are being ignored.
She expressed concern, stating that merit is being undermined, and students are questioning why they should work hard when they are not given opportunities despite their efforts.
Mehbooba Mufti pointed out that people voted for the National Conference, hoping they would raise the issues in Indian Parliament, but over a year has passed since their MPs were elected, and not a single MP has spoken about the injustices faced by merit-based candidates.
Mehbooba Mufti said that the NC had promised that no one would be deprived of their rights. Yet, deserving candidates continue to be ignored. She urged NC leader Omar Abdullah to take decisive action instead of waiting for court rulings to resolve these issues.
She emphasized that reservation based on population should be ensured to guarantee justice. She called for immediate steps to restore merit and justice in the system.
