IIOJK administration again places Mirwaiz under house arrest in Srinagar
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP-installed administration, under the control of the Lieutenant Governor, once again placed All Parties Hurriyat Conference senior leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest in Srinagar, today.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian police barricaded the main entrance to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s residence in the Nigeen area of Srinagar ahead of Friday prayers, preventing him from leaving his home to attend the prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in the city.
This marks the third consecutive week that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been barred from attending Juma prayers at the grand mosque.
In a statement, the Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar strongly condemned the repeated house arrests of the Mirwaiz. “The authorities’ decision to keep the Mirwaiz under house arrest at his Nigeen residence is deeply hurtful to the sentiments of devotees and deprives them of their fundamental religious freedoms,” the statement read. The Auqaf further lamented that the LG administration, through these arbitrary actions, continues to disregard and disrespect the religious emotions of the people. Such actions, the Auqaf stressed, amount to unwarranted interference in the religious affairs of Muslims and are unequivocally condemnable.
