Muslim woman, family assaulted by men posing as police officers in Bihar

Sitamarhi, Bihar: A Muslim woman, along with her elderly mother and young daughter, were assaulted by two men who posed as police officers in Bihar’s Sitamarhi.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the shocking incident occurred in the last week of December, when the perpetrators, dressed in civilian clothing, forcibly entered the home of Reshami Khatoon, a widow, and began to intimidate and physically assault the family.

In an exclusive interview with an English dail, Reshami recounted the traumatic experience. “They broke our gate and came inside. The way they behaved didn’t look like they were from the police. They came at night when we had no man at home. They started using vulgar language and intimidated us. When I questioned them about their identity, they got angry, held my hair, and pushed me against the wall, injuring me badly,” Reshami said.

Her elderly mother, who has a history of heart problems, was also verbally and physically assaulted despite her attempts to stop the men. “My mother, who was praying at the time, tried to intervene and speak to them, but they started assaulting her too,” Reshami added, sobbing.

Reshami recognized one of the men as Sonu Yadav, while the other man claimed to be a Station House Officer (SHO) but was not in uniform. “I kept asking them, ‘How can a police officer behave like this?’” Reshami recalled.

The attackers threatened further violence. The family was forced to flee for safety after the assault.

Reshami and her family, who were too scared to seek medical attention immediately, were later prevented from getting treatment by the men who called the police to intimidate them further.

Reshami’s son, Urooj Khan, had previously been falsely implicated in a case shortly after returning from Qatar. The family had petitioned the police and even approached the High Court, as many locals testified that Urooj had no involvement in the case. Despite this, the authorities have failed to take any action, leading to escalating tensions.
