Speakers call for continued support for Kashmir’s Self-Determination
Kashmir Solidarity Week will be observed from Feb 2 to 11 in UK
Oldham: A conference organized by Jammu Kashmir Self-Determination Movement International (JKSDMI) called for sustained international engagement and diplomatic pressure on India to address human rights violations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
According to Kashmir Media Service, the conference, led by JKSDMI Chairman Raja Najabat Hussain, underscored the urgency of raising awareness about human rights abuses in IIOJK and continuing global efforts to advocate for justice for the Kashmiri people. The event brought together key political figures, community leaders, and activists to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to the cause of Kashmir’s self-determination.
The speakers highlighted the need for continued global action to ensure that India complies with UN resolutions and safeguards the rights of Kashmiris. They reiterated the strong commitment of British local leaders in advocating for Kashmir on the international stage and stressed the need for the UK government to take a more decisive stance on Kashmir within parliamentary debates and diplomatic discussions.
A major highlight of the event was the announcement of the launch of Kashmir Solidarity Week, which will be observed nationwide in the UK from February 2 until February 11, 2025. This week-long initiative aims to raise awareness of the ongoing human rights violations in IIOJK, engage British parliamentarians in pushing for concrete action, and mobilise communities across the UK to stand in solidarity with Kashmir. The launch of this initiative marked a new chapter in JKSDMI’s advocacy efforts, with planned events and key discussions to take place, including in the British Parliament.
The conference concluded with a renewed commitment from all attendees to continue advocating for Kashmir’s right to self-determination at national and international forums, ensuring that the issue remains a priority on the global human rights agenda
