NIA opposes bail plea of jailed MP from IIOJK Engineer Rashid

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has opposed the interim bail plea of jailed MP from Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir Engineer Rashid in the Delhi High Court, stating that his request to attend Indian Parliament was an attempt to misuse legal provisions.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during the hearing before Justice Vikas Mahajan, the NIA argued that interim bail should only be granted in cases of “intolerable grief and suffering”, which, according to the agency, did not apply to Rashid’s situation. His plea is scheduled for hearing on February 4.

Rashid, who won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Baramulla constituency, has been lodged in Tihar Jail since 2019 after his arrest under the draconian law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also filed a money laundering case against Rashid and others based on the NIA’s FIR, which accuses them of “conspiring to wage war against India” and “inciting unrest in Kashmir”.
