Indian SC ruling exposes policy contradictions in IIOJK job appointments

New Delhi: A fresh order by the Indian Supreme Court on the defunct Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) scheme has raised serious questions over policy inconsistencies and administrative contradictions in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s education sector.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Supreme Court has directed the authorities to issue appointment orders within eight weeks to candidates who were empanelled under the now-defunct ReT scheme. While the scheme was officially scrapped in 2018 and all pending selections were cancelled, the court has ruled that the rights of candidates already placed in select panels cannot be retrospectively denied, exposing ambiguity in the government’s earlier decision.
The verdict appears contradictory as it upholds the government’s decision to close the scheme, yet simultaneously orders appointments under the same discontinued framework.
Observers say this reflects confusion in policymaking, where decisions are reversed or modified after years of uncertainty, leaving candidates in prolonged distress.
