Speakers express solidarity with Kashmiris at Sweden event

Stockholm: An event in connection with Kashmir solidarity day was organized in Sweden to express solidarity with people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the event, organized by Kashmir Council Sweden, was led by Sardar Tamur Aziz. The speakers emphasized the need to promote Kashmiris’ right to self-determination and called for an end to the human rights abuses in the disputed territory. The event aimed to provide a platform for Kashmiri voices in international forums. Kashmir Council Sweden also urged Swedish authorities to advocate for a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir dispute.

One of the main highlights of the event was the speech by 10-year-old Swedish-born Kashmiri girl, Maryam Tamur, who said, “I want to tell my Kashmiri brothers, sisters, and particularly youth that they are not alone, we are with them. We will become their eyes and ears here in Sweden.”

Bilal Hayee, Pakistani Ambassador to Sweden & Finland, expressed his gratitude to the Pakistani and Kashmiri community for their commitment to the cause of the oppressed people of IIOJK. He stated that all draconian laws enacted in IIOJK, particularly the Domicile Law, are designed to change the demography of Kashmir. However, he highlighted that the people of Kashmir have not relented in their desire to realize the right to self-determination, as promised by the United Nations.

Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Chairman of the World Forum for Peace & Justice, who addressed the event via video-link, termed India’s land grab in IIOJK as grotesque violations of their basic human rights and an attempt to change the demographics of the territory. Dr. Fai also warned that evictions and demolitions in Kashmir would amount to war crimes under international law, as they violate various internationally recognized human rights.

Video messages from Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, President AJK, and Sardar Masood Khan, former President of AJK, were played during the event.

A moving documentary on the plight of Kashmiris was well received by the audience. A photo exhibition depicting the atrocities committed by the Indian army in IIOJK was also displayed.
