Turkish MP reaffirms solidarity with Kashmir during meeting with Dr Fai in US

Washington, : A meaningful meeting focusing on Kashmir and the ongoing denial of fundamental rights to its people was held in Washington, where prominent Kashmiri advocate Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai met Ustaaz Mustafa Kaya, a Member of the Turkish Parliament and a longstanding supporter of the Kashmiri cause.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Dr Fai, who is also chairman of the World Forum for Peace & Justice, said it was a privilege to host Ustaaz Mustafa Kaya, whose unwavering commitment to Kashmir has been demonstrated through years of sustained advocacy in Turkey. He noted that Kaya has consistently organised seminars and lectures on Kashmir in Ankara and other cities under the platform of the Economic and Social Research Center (ESAM), highlighting the plight of the Kashmiri people at international forums.
Dr Fai said ESAM firmly believes that lasting peace and social harmony are impossible without the full protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms, stressing that institutions which suppress these rights undermine their own legitimacy.
Despite a demanding schedule during his visit to Washington at the invitation of the US government, Ustaaz Mustafa Kaya accepted Dr Fai’s invitation to meet with the board, spending several hours discussing issues of shared concern, particularly Kashmir. Dr Fai described the gesture as a reflection of Kaya’s humility and deep dedication to the Kashmiri struggle.
The meeting was also attended by Mehmet Nurullah, head of ESAM’s Washington office, Mehmet Birtek from Pennsylvania, and Rabiul Choudhary, who is active in mainstream US politics. Dr Fai said their engagement demonstrated growing international awareness and concern over the Kashmir issue.
The discussion centred on the decades-long suffering of Kashmiris under occupation and the need for sustained global advocacy. Dr Fai emphasised that Ustaaz Kaya’s support for Kashmir is not symbolic but rooted in consistent and meaningful efforts across Ankara, Istanbul and beyond.
Members of the board, including Dr Ghulam N. Mir, President of the World Kashmir Awareness Forum, Dr Imtiaz Khan, and Dr A. Meer, also attended the meeting and expressed appreciation for Ustaaz Kaya’s principled stand.
Dr Fai, who also serves as Secretary General of the World Kashmir Awareness Forum, said such international engagements strengthen the resolve to continue raising the Kashmir issue until the Kashmiri people are granted their inalienable right to self-determination.
