Glowing tributes paid to Shaheed Afzal Guru, Shaheed Maqbool Butt in Muzaffarabad

Muzaffarabad: A grand conference and rally was organized in Muzaffarabad to pay tributes to Shaheed Muhammad Afzal Guru and Shaheed Maqbool Butt on their martyrdom anniversaries.

According to Kashmir Media Service, India had hanged Muhammad Afzal Guru in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on 9th February, 2013 and another prominent Kashmiri leader Muhammad Maqbool Butt in the same jail on 11th February, 1984. Their bodies remain buried in the premises of the jail.

The conference and rally was organized by All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) and Liberation Cell.

The aim of the conference was to pay tribute to the unprecedented sacrifices of the Kashmiri martyrs and to renew the pledge that the Kashmiris will continue their righteous struggle by following the footsteps of their martyrs until the completion of their unfinished mission.

Hurriyat leaders, various political, social and religious parties and student organizations of Azad Kashmir, as well as a large number of people belonging to different schools of thought attended the conference.

The chief guest of the conference was former prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Raja Farooq Haider Khan, while Deputy Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Sheikh Aqeel-ur-Rehman chaired the conference.

A resolution was also unanimously passed in the conference.

The speakers paid rich tributes to Shaheed Afzal Guru, Shaheed Maqbool Butt and other martyrs of Kashmir and said that the martyrdom of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Butt was an extrajudicial killing.

The speakers said that when Muhammad Afzal Guru was hanged twelve years ago on charges of attacking the Indian Parliament, the Indian Supreme Court justified its decision by satisfying the conscience of the Indian people, which meant that the Indian Supreme Court gave this decision merely to please its people and to express its hostility, prejudice and hatred towards the Kashmiris, on which judicial institutions around the world ridiculed the Indian Supreme Court.

They said before the hanging of Shaheed Afzal Guru, neither his family was allowed to meet him nor his mortal remains were handed over to their heirs.

The speakers said the Kashmiri people will continue their struggle for freedom by following the footsteps of their great heroes until the complete independence of Kashmir from India.

Meanwhile, a rally was also organized by Pasban-e-Hurriyat in Muzaffarabad to pay tribute to Shaheed Afzal Guru and Shaheed Maqbool Butt, which was addressed by Pasban-e- Hurriyat Chairman Uzair Ahmed Ghazali, Peoples Party leaders Shaukat Javed Mir, Chaudhry Shaheen Iqbal, Usman Ali Hashim, Ishaq Shaheen, Khawaja Muhammad Sadiq, Liaquat Ali Rana, Tanveer Durrani, Fayyaz Khan, Faisal Farooq and others.

The speakers said that India will never succeed in crushing the freedom struggle of the Kashmiri people through hangings, bullets, jails and violence. They said that the Indian judiciary has always given biased and cruel decisions against Kashmir and the Kashmiri people.

The conference was attended by APHC-AJK General Secretary Advocate Pervez Ahmed, Information Secretary Mushtaq Ahmed Butt, Hurriyat leaders Sheikh Abdul Mateen, Chaudhry Shaheen, President of Mustafa Welfare Azad Kashmir, Atiq Raza Kiani, Zahid Amin Kashif, Director of Kashmir Liberation Cell Raja Aslam Khan, Dr. Manzoor, Umar Asif, Sultan Mahmood, Samia Sajid, Shujaat Kazmi, Muhammad Maqbool and others.
