Modi caught between Trump’s policies and India’s global balancing act

New Delhi: President Donal Trump’s purely US-centric policies have landed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has embarked on his Washington visit, in hot waters.
According to Kashmir Media Service, political analysts while commenting on the Modi’s visit said that the “The trip follows the humiliating deportation of 104 Indian migrants, shackled and chained, sparking outrage back home”.
Trump, in his second term, is doubling down on immigration policies, with India caught in the crossfire. With 725,000 illegal Indian immigrants in the U.S., Modi is seeking balance appeasement with negotiation.
H-1B visas, crucial for Indian professionals, remain at risk, even as Trump praises skilled migrants.
“Trade is another battlefield. India has cut duties on high-end motorcycles to please Trump. Yet, fears persist of escalating demands, especially in defense deals,” said one analyst.
The analysts view that Trump is seeking India’s support against China. “But India treads mischievously, wary of Trump’s transactional diplomacy.”
Now that Trump is on the driving seat in the United States, the analysts added, Modi lost the ability to safeguard India’s interests in Washington while maintaining a strategic partnership with US as an unpredictable ally.
Modi, they argue, will become sandwich between BRICS countries and the US. As Trump announced to apply 100 percent tariff for BRICS countries if they used alternative currency for US dollar.
