Muzzammil Thakur urges world to abandon its double standards on Kashmir dispute
London: The UK-based Kashmiri political activist and President of World Kashmir Freedom Movement (WKFM), Dr Muzzammil Ayyub Thakur, has urged the world community to abandon its double standards on the Kashmir dispute.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Dr Muzzammil Ayyub Thakur supports the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination and often describes Indian administration as a colonial occupation, while he has continued to highlight human rights violations, restrictions on dissent, and demographic changes in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr Muzzammil Ayyub Thakur in a video statement, while comparing the actions of Israel and India, said: “Unfortunately, I will definitely include Israel in this matter, simply because Israel cannot get away with many things in the same way. If you move even an inch inside Palestine, or do something in Lebanon, or do something in Syria, at least the rest of the world becomes aware of it and we get an opportunity to respond.”
He further said: “When it comes to Kashmir, India not only creates devastation throughout Kashmir but then completely and illegally annexes the entire region, and there is no reaction to it.”
Dr Muzzammil further said he often uses a controversial term that India succeeded where Israel failed.
According to Dr Muzzammil, Israeli actions in Palestine receive continuous attention from the international media and governments, while Indian policies and human rights violations in occupied Kashmir do not receive the same level of international response.
He has consistently criticized the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, changes to Kashmir’s constitutional status, and Indian policies, while supporting the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination under United Nations resolutions.
In his statements, Dr Muzzammil Ayyub Thakur has also drawn parallels between Kashmir and Palestine and presented comparative assessments of Hindutva and Zionism. He emphasizes the Kashmiri position on self-determination and human rights.
Dr. Muzzammil’s father, Muhammad Ayub Thakur, was also a well-known Kashmiri activist based in London and was a founder of several organizations, including the WKFM. Indian authorities had previously accused him of allegedly supporting and providing financial assistance to ‘militants’.
Dr. Muzzammil Ayyub Thakur’s latest statement is a continuation of his long-standing position, in which he presents Kashmir and Palestine as examples of what he describes as differing approaches by global powers.
