Modi govt’s brutal apathy forces farmers to intensify protest

New Delhi: Driven to despair by mounting debts and the government’s failure to provide a Minimum Support Price (MSP), Indian farmers have intensified their protests, with Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s hunger strike exposing the dire state of Indian agriculture.

According to Kashmir Media Service, farmers espcially in Punjab and Haryana states are staging protests, leading to the blocking of railways and roads, as the Modi government is indifferent to their demands. The crisis, deepened by rising input costs, lack of storage facilities and unfair prices, has pushed many farmers to the brink of starvation.

Since 2020 alone, over 9,000 farmer have committed suicide, while the government’s apathy in the face of mounting debt continues to fuel outrage. Instead of paying to their demands, the Indian government label farmers as agitators, and they are dealt with barricades, tear gas, and internet shutdowns as they march to Delhi.

What farmers demand is just fair prices, support and dignity, but the government’s brutal attitude threatens to dismantle the backbone of the farmers.
