Hindutva extremists raise saffron flags, slogans at Mumbai’s dargah

Mumbai: Members of Hindu extremist groups raised saffron flags and chanted Hindutva slogans at Haji Malang Dargah in BJP-ruled Maharashtra state of India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a video that has gone viral on social media shows a group of individuals waving saffron flags and chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ during the annual Urs festival at the Malang Gad hill in Thane district.
The Dargah Committee has strongly condemned the act, stating, “This is a dargah, a place of worship for people of all faiths. Such attempts to alter its religious significance are unacceptable.”
Hindu groups argue that the site originally belonged to them. A representative from one of the groups supporting the slogans stated, “This is a temple, and our ancestors worshipped here. We are reclaiming our heritage.”
One of the most contentious aspects of the video is the presence of a police officer standing in the background, observing the incident without taking any action. This has raised concerns about law enforcement’s role in maintaining communal harmony.
Social activist Imran Khan condemned the incident, saying, “This is an attempt to disturb peace. The authorities must take strict action to prevent such provocations in religious places.”
