Samjhauta Express bombing: A case of unpunished terrorism in India
New Delhi: In what a glaring example of unpunished terrorism and systemic protection of right-wing extremists in India, the Samjhauta Express bombing on February 18, 2007 was a calculated act by RSS extremists to derail India-Pakistan peace efforts.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the sinister act claimed 68 lives, mostly Pakistani civilians.
In spite of strong evidence, Indian authorities failed to ensure justice. Key suspects like Swami Aseemanand were acquitted in 2019 due to deliberate negligence.
Also, the involvement of Indian Military Intelligence, particularly Col. Shrikant Purohit, in protecting the perpetrators further exposed a state-sponsored terrorism.
The tragic incident remains a scarce on the face of India, which flaunts to be the world largest democracy.
