AAP MLA allegations spark heated exchange in IIOJK Assembly

Jammu: A heated verbal duel erupted in the Assembly today after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Meraj Malik said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is constructing its office on encroached state land in Kathua, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking on grants for demands related to Public Works, Mining and Industries, he said that the BJP was illegally occupying land for its party office. His remarks immediately triggered strong reactions from BJP MLAs, who stood up in protest, demanding evidence to support his claims.

BJP MLA Sham Lal Sharma challenged Meraj Malik to either substantiate his allegations or issue an unconditional apology.

Rajiv Jasrotia, another BJP legislator, dismissed the allegations, stating that the party’s office in Kathua had been in existence for over a decade.

As the exchange grew more intense, Chairperson Mubarak Gul intervened, urging members to refrain from making unsubstantiated accusations.

“A member should make accusations with careful thought,” he said.
