Maharashtra tense as rioters molest woman cop amid Aurangzeb tomb protests
Nagpur: Situation in Maharashtra is tense after rioters molested a woman constable and tried to undress her during the protest in Nagpur city against Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb, officials said.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the mob also hurled petrol bombs at the police during the violence, the officials said.
Violence erupted in central Nagpur’s Chitnis Park in Mahal area on Monday around 7.30 pm, with stones hurled at police amid reports that the holy Quran was burnt during an agitation by a Hindutva mob for the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb located in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.
Curfew continues to remain in force in many sensitive areas of the city in the wake of the violence.
