CIA’s secret bases in India expose Delhi’s diplomatic independence, hypocrisy on Russia

New Delhi: India’s claims of diplomatic independence have been dented after revelations that the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) operated secret bases in New Delhi and Kolkata, exposing New Delhi’s hypocrisy in its relations with Russia.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian media reports disclosed that declassified John F. Kennedy files reveal India allowed the U.S. to use its bases for refueling CIA U-2 spy planes in 1962.

The JFK files suggest that India served as a strategic pawn in covert CIA operations during the Cold War. The existence of CIA bases in New Delhi and Kolkata highlights how India’s sovereignty was quietly compromised by U.S. espionage interests.

Moreover, India’s approval of the Charbatia airbase for CIA spy planes in 1962 underscores its role as a geopolitical chess piece against China. The revelations further expose how India deceived its then-ally, the Soviet Union, while secretly collaborating with the U.S., the USSR’s Cold War adversary.
