BJP’s viewing Urdu through communal lens dangerous low: Para

Srinagar: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Waheed Para has hit out at the BJP-led Indian government for “viewing Urdu through a communal lens marks”, which he said is a dangerous low in the political discourse of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Para was responding to the BJP welcoming on the decision of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) staying the IIOJK government order which made Urdu mandatory for applying to the post of naib tehsildar in the occupied territory.

“Urdu is not a symbol of any religion but the throbbing pulse of Kashmir’s identity, echoing collective memories and soulful struggles of our people over centuries. It is the language of poets, courts, revenue offices, administration & everyday life here,” Para said in a post on X. He also criticised the CAT’s order.

CAT is a quasi-judicial body in India established under Article 323-A of the Indian Constitution. It was set up in 1985 to provide a specialized forum for resolving disputes related to recruitment and service conditions for public sector employees.
