India making film on 2020 Galwan clash with China
'Cinematic victories can't change the history'
New Delhi:India, known for turning battlefield defeats into cinematic victories, is now producing a film on the 2020 military clash with China in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley, where at least 20 Indian soldiers, including a colonel, were killed.
According to Kashmir Media Service, while India boasts of winning wars on the silver screen, its real-world military ventures often end in humiliation. After facing a crushing defeat during its covert aggression against Pakistan in the form of Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, India has increasingly resorted to fictional triumphs in movies. Several anti-Pakistan films have been produced to glorify imagined victories.
Now, in a similar attempt to rewrite history, India is making a movie on the Galwan Valley clash that took place five years ago along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. During the bloody skirmish, the Indian army was not only forced to retreat, leaving its wounded behind, but also suffered heavy casualties. The film, titled ‘Battle of Galwan’, stars Bollywood actor Salman Khan and is directed by Apoorva Lakhia.
A poster released for the movie shows Salman Khan bloodied and holding a wooden stick wrapped in barbed wire, reflecting a dramatized and exaggerated portrayal of the events.
