Shehbaz Sharif attends China’s largest military parade, Modi ignored

Beijing: China staged the largest military parade in its history at Tiananmen Square to mark the 80th anniversary of Japan’s defeat in World War II, with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attending alongside several world leaders, while India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conspicuously not invited.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the historic parade showcased China’s latest military technology, including hypersonic missiles, intercontinental nuclear weapons, and advanced equipment of its army, navy, and air force. Male and female soldiers marched in unison, tanks and missile carriers moved with precision, and the impressive formations paid salute to President Xi Jinping.

The event was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, North Korea’s leader, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, among others. In contrast, Modi was sidelined, underscoring India’s growing isolation on the global stage despite its jingoistic rhetoric.

Addressing the gathering, President Xi Jinping welcomed the international dignitaries and said the world today stands at a crossroads between war and peace. He urged nations to prevent the recurrence of historical tragedies and reiterated that the Chinese people remain committed to peace and justice, rejecting expansionism. “China’s development and prosperity cannot be stopped,” he declared, calling for a fair and equitable global order.

Observers noted that the red-carpet welcome for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reflected the ironclad friendship between Pakistan and China, further cementing Islamabad’s position as a trusted partner in Beijing’s vision for global peace and stability.
