Prof Butt’s legacy affirms Kashmiris’ resolve for right to self-determina tion: Safi

Islamabad: The Convener of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference-AJK chapter, Ghulam Muhammad Safi, has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the demise of veteran Hurriyat leader and former APHC chairman Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, describing him as a visionary leader and intellectual of the highest stature who dedicated his entire life to the Kashmiri people’s inalienable right to self-determination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in his statement, Safi said that the passing of Professor Butt is an irreparable loss for the Kashmir freedom movement. “He was not only a fearless and ideological leader but also an intellectual pillar whose wisdom and guidance gave direction to the struggle, even during its most difficult phases. His sacrifices and contributions will remain a shining chapter in history,” he noted.

He added that Professor Butt’s lifelong struggle is proof that the Kashmiri people will never abandon their right to self-determination. “Indian state terrorism, extrajudicial killings, custodial torture, and grave human rights violations have failed to crush this movement. Leaders like Professor Butt, through their character and commitment, made this truth evident to the world,” Safi stressed.

The APHC Convener urged the international community, including the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and global human rights bodies, to immediately take notice of Indian atrocities in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and to take concrete measures to secure the Kashmiri people’s fundamental and inherent right to self-determination.

Concluding his statement, Safi said that the APHC shares the grief of the bereaved family in this great tragedy. “We pray that Almighty Allah grants the departed leader the highest place in Jannah, forgives his shortcomings, and bestows patience upon the bereaved family,” he added.
