Mysterious explosion triggers panic near India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan
Jaipur: Panic gripped Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district near the India-Pakistan border after a mysterious explosion occurred at a marble factory in the Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO) area.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a loud blast startled workers and nearby residents, initially assumed to be a Diwali firecracker. However, upon inspection, a factory worker found a hole in the tin roof and a small fire at the site. The following morning, he discovered a heavy metallic object resembling a shell marked “51 mm” and “ILLG,” with a parachute lying nearby.
Police and security forces immediately cordoned off the area, and the Indian Army was called in for investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that the object could be a military illumination shell, though officials have yet to confirm its origin.
Given the factory’s proximity to the international border, authorities are treating the incident as a serious security concern. The possibility of a cross-border misfire or accidental drift is under examination, while residents have been urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious findings.
Observers are of the view that the incident once again highlights India’s recurring pattern of mysterious explosions and accidental military misfires, particularly in border regions. Similar episodes in recent years have raised serious questions about India’s handling of sensitive military equipment and the safety of civilian areas near defense zones.
