IIOJK: Mirwaiz placed under house arrest, barred from address mming Khoje Digar congregation
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, All Parties Hurriyat Conference senior leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest today, preventing him from addressing the annual ‘Khoje Digar’ congregation at the historic shrine of Hazrat Khawaja Naqshband Sahib in Srinagar’s old city.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the office of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a post on X said the restrictions had barred him from delivering the traditional sermon and offering prayers at the shrine.
“Ahead of the centuries-old tradition of Khoje Digar at the shrine of Naqshband Sahib, Mirwaiz has been placed under house arrest, barring him from delivering the traditional sermon and offering prayers at the historic shrine,” the post said.
The Anjuman Auqaf of Jamia Masjid had earlier announced that the Mirwaiz would deliver a sermon at 4:00pm at the shrine, followed by congregational prayers at 5:30pm at the revered shrine.
The annual ‘Khoje Digar ‘congregation at the shrine of Hazrat Khawaja Naqshband Sahib is a long-standing tradition that draws devotees from different parts of the territory.
