Protest demonstration, signature campaign held in Lahore

Lahore: A protest demonstration and a signature campaign were held outside the Lahore Press Club against the Indian military invasion of Jammu and Kashmir on October 27, 1947.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a large number of leaders and workers from various political and social organizations, intellectuals, lawyers, Boy Scouts, traders and representatives of civil society actively participated and strongly condemned India’s military aggression.

The protest demonstration was organised under the auspices of Kashmir Center, Lahore and was addressed by prominent League leader Syed Naseebullah Gardezi, senior PPP leader Ghulam Abbas Mir, former Member of Legislative Assembly Maulana Shafi Josh, In charge Kashmir Center, Lahore, Inam-ul-Hassan, Senior Vice President of Muslim League Lawyers Wing Manzoor Gilani Advocate, President of Muslim Conference, Lahore circle, Iqbal Qureshi, General Secretary of Kashmir Action Committee Farooq Azad, JKLF leader Aftab Nazki, lawyer leader Raja Hastam Advocate, world traveller Maqsood Chughtai, Atif Mir, Maqbool Awan, Shahid Nadeem, Allama Mushtaq Qadri, scouts leader Master Muhammad Ashfaq, Busharat Vohra, Faisal Fabani, Bilal Butt and others.

In their speeches, the speakers said that India carried out military aggression against Jammu and Kashmir, adding its move was completely illegal and unconstitutional. They said India contradicted the same principles in Kashmir that it used to occupy Hyderabad Deccan and Junagarh.

They speakers said that Jammu and Kashmir is a Muslim majority territory and its accession must be with Pakistan. No option other than the right to self-determination is acceptable to the people of Kashmir, they added.

This right has been recognized by the United Nations, the international community and even India itself. It is the fundamental and birthright of the Kashmiri people, the speakers maintained.

The speakers appreciated the participation of all political, social, religious and civil society representatives in the protest and signature campaign organized by Kashmir Center Lahore.
