‘Dual power system’ is stalling govt functionality in IIOJK, says Ali Sagar

Srinagar: Ali Muhammad Sagar, the National Conference (NC) General Secretary and MLA for Khanyar, launched a sharp critique in the Legislative Assembly, accusing a “dual power system” of obstructing the functioning of the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking during the Zero Hour, Sagar stated that the promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir remain unfulfilled and alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is engaging in “divisive politics.”

“Everybody knows there is a dual power system in Jammu and Kashmir. The elected government has been facing obstacles,” Sagar asserted in the House.

He called upon BJP legislators to address issues from both regions of the state equally. “BJP legislators should listen to the issues in both the regions, Jammu as well as Kashmir,” he said.

The senior NC leader also touched upon the unresolved issue of statehood restoration, emphasizing that the central government’s commitments to the region have not been met.

In a conciliatory note, Sagar praised the Assembly Speaker for ensuring the proceedings were conducted smoothly, allowing the House to focus on substantive public issues.

His remarks also included a call for measured discourse among fellow lawmakers. Reacting to a statement made by a BJP legislator, Sagar urged members to speak thoughtfully. “We should ensure that our words do not hurt the sentiments of any community,” he advised.

The session marked Sagar’s first address in the current Assembly term.
