Indian Chief of Defence Staff expresses distrust in domestic defence industry

New Delhi: Indian Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan has expressed deep displeasure and distrust over the performance of the defence industry, saying that failure to complete contracts on time raises questions about the country’s industrial capacity.
According to Kashmir Media Service, General Anil Chauhan while addressing an event said, “You sign contracts but do not deliver on time, which weakens our overall capacity.” He said it is important to speak the truth about local capacity in defence production as it is directly linked to national security.
Chauhan further said, “We expect some patriotic aspect to be included in the race to make profits.” Defence reforms cannot be one-sided as for this the industry will have to provide accurate information about its actual capacity, he added.
General Anil Chauhan said many companies claim that their products are 70 percent local, while the reality is the opposite, and in terms of price, their products are much more expensive than international standards.
