Punish the guilty, not Kashmiri Muslims, Omar Abdullah tells Modi & Amit Shah
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has warned Modi-led Indian regime and its forces against targeting ordinary Kashmiri Muslims in the aftermath of the Delhi blast, stressing that only those responsible should face punishment.
According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking after visiting victims of the Nowgam Police Station explosion in Srinagar, Omar said he raised his concerns at the 32nd Northern Zonal Council meeting in Hyderabad, attended by Indian Home Minister Amit Shah, Home Secretary, Governors, Lieutenant Governors, and Chief Ministers of northern Indian states.
“Innocent people from Jammu and Kashmir should not be viewed with suspicion merely… ,” he said. “Punish those responsible, but don’t brand the entire population.” He emphasized that the acts of a few cannot justify vilifying millions.
Describing the Nowgam Police Station blast, which killed nine people, including five policemen and four civilians, and injured 32, as “deeply tragic,” CM called for a thorough investigation into how explosives were stored and handled.
Kashmiri civil society and political circles have repeatedly raised concerns over blanket suspicion and harassment of ordinary Kashmiris in the name of counter-terror operations, a pattern highlighted by CM Omar in his remarks.
