West Bengal: Elderly woman commits suicide due to panic over electoral rolls’ SIR

Kolkata: An elderly woman has committed suicide in Purab Bardhaman district of the Indian state of West Bengal due to severe mental stress over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the woman’s heirs say that she was under severe mental stress due to the special revision campaign by the Election Commission in the electoral rolls.
The 50-year-old woman, who committed suicide, was unmarried and was living with her parents. She was extremely anxious about the verification of voter lists.
It may be recalled that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a statement a few days ago severely criticized the Election Commission of India on the issue of revision of voter lists and appealed to people not to commit suicide for fear of revision of voter lists.
She claimed that, so far, about 36 people had taken their lives due to revision of voter lists because the Action Commission and the BJP have created a disastrous situation.
The Election Commission has become a BJP Commission which is using “Artificial Intelligence” (AI) as a tool for rigging.
