CPI-M calls for probe into selective demolition of journalist’s house in Jammu

Jammu: Senior CPI-M leader and Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami has demanded a thorough probe into the “selective demolition” of the house of a journalist in Jammu, Indian illegally occupield Jammu and Kashmir, warning that such unilateral actions undermine basic rights.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Tarigami visited the residence of journalist Arfaz Daing, whose house was demolished by the occupation authorities on November 27 in the Transport Nagar area. The family, now displaced, said they had lived in the house for over forty years and were not served any notice prior to the demolition.

Tarigami expressed solidarity with the affected family and said the manner in which the operation was conducted “creates an atmosphere of fear and raises disturbing questions about transparency and due process.” He criticised the authorities for remaining silent even a fortnight after the demolition, remarking that “we are not living under jungle rule.”

The CPI-M leader urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to order an impartial inquiry into the incident to ensure accountability and prevent the misuse of government authority. He stressed that all anti-encroachment drives must strictly follow legal procedures.

Tarigami also voiced concern over the absence of any rehabilitation plan for the victims. He said the family was unable to retrieve any belongings because the action was sudden and afforded them no time to shift their household items. He termed the approach “inhumane and unacceptable,” calling for immediate and proper rehabilitation of the displaced family.
