Indian police arrest two Kashmiris in Shopian

Srinagar: Indian police have arrested two Kashmiri civilians during an operation in Heerpora area of Shopian district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the duo was arrested during a night raid in Heerpora village. The arrested persons have been identified as Ahsan Ahmad Wagay, a resident of Yarikha in Kulgam, and Rahil Ahmad Butt, a resident of Lasio Bonpora in Kulgam. The police claimed to have recovered anti-India posters from their possession.

A case has been registered at Police Station Heerpora under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), a law frequently used by Indian authorities to detain Kashmiris on flimsy or fabricated charges.

Kashmir watchers say such arrests are part of a systematic pattern in IIOJK, where civilians are routinely targeted under various pretexts. Presently, over 4,000 Kashmiris remain imprisoned in Indian jails.
