Indian army soldier arrested for raping woman in Ranchi
Ranchi: An Indian Army soldier has been arrested for raping a woman on a train in Ranchi, Jharkhand state of India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident took place while the woman was waiting on a train.
The soldier dragged her into a compartment and raped her. He has been identified as Ajit Singh, reportedly posted with the 42 Medium Regiment in Punjab.
Local police have taken him into custody and opened an investigation into the case.
The arrest comes alongside a series of other unrelated but serious criminal cases involving members and ex-members of the Indian armed forces.
In a separate development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) detained an Indian Army officer, Lieutenant Colonel Deepak Kumar Sharma, along with Vinod Kumar, in connection with a bribery scheme.
Lt Col Sharma is posted in India’s Ministry of Defence, and a corruption case has also been registered against his wife, Colonel Kajal, who is likewise associated with the defence establishment..
Meanwhile, a former Indian soldier has been arrested near the Nepal border on suspicion of drug trafficking and illegal possession of explosives.
