Srinagar: Indian forces have sharply intensified frisking, house raids and vehicle searches across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian police and paramilitary forces on Tuesday carried out massive operations around vital installations in Srinagar, while joint teams launched extensive search and operations in the forest areas of south Kashmir’s Islamabad district. The operations were described by officials as “preventive measures,” though residents say such actions have become routine and coercive.
In a related development, India’s National Investigation Agency conducted raids in Salia village of Islamabad district in connection with its probe into the Pahalgam attack. An NIA team searched the residences of Kashmiri people. Locals reported heightened deployment and movement restrictions during the operation.
Police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel have also intensified vehicle checking and surveillance at multiple locations in Srinagar, including tourist and high-footfall areas such as the Dal Lake surroundings. Checkpoints have been set up at major entry and exit points, with police from Nishat police station and CRPF units conducting thorough inspections of vehicles and commuters.
Indian authorities claimed that heightened vigilance, increased patrolling and additional deployments are aimed at preventing any security breach ahead of its Republic Day celebrations. However, civil society observers note that the recurring crackdowns, especially ahead of political events, amount to collective punishment and create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation among the local population.
The sweeping operations, raids and constant checks have disrupted daily life across the Valley, reinforcing concerns over the continued militarisation of the region under the guise of security.
