BJP leader’s provocative statement again exposes anti-Muslim hatred in India

Kolkata: The highly provocative and hateful statement against Muslims by senior sectarian BJP leader Suvindu Adhikari in India has not only created a severe political uproar but has also exposed the anti-Muslim politics growing under the Hindutva ideology.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Suvindu Adhikari’s speech outside the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata is being termed as inciting open violence, mass killings and even Muslim genocide in India, which is being expressed deep concern across the country.

Adhikari in his speech said that just as Israel took action in Gaza, India should also take steps in the same manner. This statement has been met with strong criticism from political parties, human rights activists and civil society.

According to analysts, such statements pose a serious threat to India’s constitutional principles, secular identity and social harmony.

According to the Indian newspaper The Hindu, the ruling party’s opponent, the Trinamool Congress, has described this statement as the most hate speech and said it is tantamount to open incitement to mass violence and genocide.
