NIA Court Denies Bail to Youth in Jammu ‘Conspiracy’ Case

Jammu:The court of Special Judge for National Investigation Agency (NIA) cases in Jammu on Saturday rejected the bail application of Jan Mohammad Telli, a resident of Soafshalli, Kokernag, who is presently lodged in Agra, in a high-profile case registered under anti-terror laws.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the case originated from FIR No. 16/2021 registered at Gangyal Police Station on February 6, 2021, after police claimed to have intercepted a Santro car near Vishal Mega Mart on Kunjwani Bye Pass, Jammu. A person inside the vehicle, later identified as Hidayat-Ulla Malik, was overpowered, while a woman accompanying him, Baseerat-ul-Ain, escaped. Baseerat-ul-Ain was later granted bail in March 2024.

The investigation was subsequently taken over by the National Investigation Agency and re-registered as a formal NIA case. Charge-sheets have since been filed against multiple accused, including Telli, who was arrested on February 10, 2021. The court order noted that Telli is alleged to have been a close associate of Malik, provided him shelter at a rented room, and participated in a conspiracy aimed at carrying out militant activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

While declining bail, the court observed that the trial is ongoing and that releasing the accused could hamper the investigation and judicial process.
