Anjuman Sharie Shian organises ‘Welcome Ramadan’ conference in Budgam

Mirwaiz hopes Indian administration will fully respect Muslims' religious rights during Ramadan

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, All Parties Hurriyat Conference senior leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has expressed hope that the Indian administration will not interfere in religious affairs during the holy month of Ramadan and will fully respect the religious rights of Muslims.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed these views while addressing the ‘Welcome Ramadan’ conference in Budgam.

The conference was attended by senior Hurriyat Conference leader Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Grand Mufti of the occupied territory Nasir-ul-Islam, and prominent scholars, imams and preachers.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said the administration should allow unhindered prayers in all mosques, including the historic Jamia Masjid of Srinagar, during the holy month. He urged the scholars and imams to give maximum lessons of hope, unity and spiritual awakening to the people during this blessed month.

He said the blessed month of Ramadan provides an important opportunity for scholars and preachers to teach people, especially the youth, to strengthen their connection with Allah Almighty, build the character of the youth and promote unity within the Ummah.

He said this time Ramadan is coming at a time when the Muslim world is facing serious challenges as injustice continues in Palestine, Muslims in India are going through a sensitive period and sectarianism is on the rise.

Mirwaiz also expressed concern over the profiling of mosques in the occupied territory, terming it as unnecessary interference in religious matters.

He said such measures should be stopped and religious institutions should be allowed to function with freedom and dignity.

The conference was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman Sharie Shian and apart from Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the event was addressed by senior Hurriyat leader and President of Anjuman Sharie Shian Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, Syed Lateef Bukhari, Maulana Mufti Mudassar Qadri, Maulana Khaki Farooqi, Dr Syed Mudassar Rizvi, Molvi Bilal Hussain Haji, Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari, Maulana Barkat Sahib, Maulana Hassan Firdousi and Syed Arshad Moosvi.

Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi in his address thanked all the scholars and distinguished guests and stressed on unity and consensus among the Muslim Ummah. He said Allah Almighty has given the month of Ramadan as a gift of mercy and forgiveness.

He strongly condemned the recent move by the authorities to lock down the Jamia Masjid in Srinagar and demanded that the Jamia Masjid be kept open at all costs during the holy month of Ramadan, as it is a place of worship, religious gathering and spiritual centre in the Kashmir Valley.

He said the closure of places of worship hurts the religious sentiments of the people, which is unacceptable in any case.

At the end, he offered special prayers for the support of the oppressed, and the unity and solidarity of the Muslim world.
