Mirwaiz praises Kashmiri unity against US-Israel aggression on Iran, demands release of detained protesters
Srinagar: Senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has praised the unity and solidarity shown by the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in condemning the ongoing US-Israel aggression on Iran. He emphasized that this collective expression of grief and condemnation reflects the moral conscience of Kashmiri society.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in a post X, said that the people of IIOJK have demonstrated their solidarity by standing firmly against oppression and having expressed unwavering support for the oppressed. He highlighted that the shutdown observed across the territory following the martyrdom of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was a peaceful yet powerful expression of solidarity with the people of Iran.
Emphasizing that the right to peaceful protest and expression of wounded sentiments must be respected, Mirwaiz expressed concern over reports of protesters and mourners, including women and minors, being detained. He termed such actions unfortunate and unwarranted.
He also strongly condemned the filing of FIRs against those participating in protests and the blocking of accounts of local media outlets by social media platforms like Facebook, for covering the protests.
Mirwaiz called on the IIOJK authorities to immediately release all those detained and seriously relook the policy of continued censorship and punishment of freedom of expression.
