Indian Navy official arrested with drugs in Kerala

Arrest highlights misconduct, accountability lapses within Indian forces

Alappuzha, March 05 (KMS): In another incident raising serious concerns over misconduct within Indian armed forces, an Indian Navy official has been arrested in the southern state of Kerala after narcotics and cannabis plants were recovered from his residence.

According to Kashmir Media Service, excise officials arrested Binu V William, 37, a resident of Mararikulam South panchayat in Alappuzha district, during a raid at his house in the Poomkavu area.

The search, carried out by a team of the Excise Enforcement and Anti-Narcotic Special Squad on the basis of a tip-off, led to the seizure of around 1.2 kilograms of ganja and ten cannabis plants from the premises.

Officials said the operation was conducted under the supervision of Circle Inspector A. Sebastian. The accused was taken into custody and further investigation has been initiated to determine the extent of his involvement in the illegal narcotics trade.

Authorities stated that the suspect had recently taken voluntary retirement from the Indian Navy after completing about 15 years of service.

Preliminary findings suggest that he used to procure the contraband from Bengaluru and continued the illegal activity even after leaving the force.

The incident indicates the possible existence of a network within Indian armed forces, triggering renewed debate over disciplinary standards and oversight within the military, as cases involving illegal activities and misconduct by Indian forces’ personnel continue to surface. Observers say the arrest of the Navy official highlights troubling lapses in accountability within India’s military establishment.
