Persistent rains disrupt life across IIOJK, Srinagar-Jammu highway remains shut
Srinagar : Persistent monsoon rains continued to disrupt normal life across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on Thursday, with the Srinagar-Jammu highway remaining closed for second day and road connectively severely affected in several districts due to fresh landslides and shooting stones.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Srinagar-Jammu highway, the Kashmir Valley’s only road link with the outside world, remained closed at several vulnerable stretches after continuous rainfall triggered landslides and shooting stones, rendering the route unsafe for traffic. The Doda-Kishtwar Road was also closed following heavy rains that created hazardous conditions.
The ongoing wet spell has disrupted transportation across several districts, with authorities warning of further landslides, flash floods and road blockages if the rainfall continues.
At least 27 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents across IIOJK in recent days. The relentless downpour has also caused widespread damage to roads, bridges and other public infrastructure, while commuters and residents continue to face severe hardships due to the closure of key routes.
