Washington: Videos and social media posts have surfaced showing individuals of Indian origin in the United States celebrating the February 28, 2026 US-Israel strikes on Iran, an operation that killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the footage, widely circulated on X and Instagram, appears to show members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ecosystem jubilantly dancing near the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The posts, often tagged with hashtags #IndiansCelebratingIranWar and #IndiansBetrayIran, have drawn widespread condemnation.
Critics say the episode exposes a troubling alignment of the majority of the Indian diaspora with hardline Hindutva agendas, trivializing a deadly regional conflict. Analysts note that such celebrations abroad reflect a growing echo of India’s ruling party’s hawkish foreign policy among its overseas supporters, raising questions about the role of political networks in shaping perceptions of global events.
The controversy follows multiple posts by social media users, including X handles @Fajarhere22, @voiceofIndian89, and @ObservrGuardian, as well as an Instagram post by @onenationvoicee, all documenting celebrations and urging scrutiny of the political undertones behind the incident.
The analysts said the celebrations reveal that some BJP-aligned networks abroad have begun projecting India’s geopolitical alliances through public displays, often at the expense of regional stability and international norms.
