Heightened military activity negates India’s ‘normalcy’ narrative in IIOJK

Jammu: India’s claims that the revocation of special status has brought “normalcy” to Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir stand increasingly contradicted by continued military buildup and heightened operational activity across the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, this negation is endorsed by the fact that General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Rising Star Corps, Lieutenant General Rajan Sharawat, reviewed the operational preparedness of troops in the Bani-Machhedi area of Kathua district. The area, described as a sensitive mountainous belt, has witnessed multiple operations in recent years and is considered a key infiltration route.

During the visit, the GOC lauded troops for their battle readiness, high morale and preparedness to operate under all conditions—an acknowledgment that reflects the continued militarized environment in the territory.

In a parallel development, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, visited a forward post along the Line of Control in Rajouri. He reviewed the situation.

Defence analysts say such frequent high-level military visits, operational reviews expose the disconnect between New Delhi’s narrative of peace and the ground realities in the territory. They argue that a region witnessing persistent military vigilance and encounters cannot be described as “normal.”
