Jammu varsity panel recommends dropping Jinnah, Iqbal, Sir Syed from MA syllabus

Jammu: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a committee set up by the University of Jammu has recommended removing topics related to Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, and Muhammad Iqbal from the MA Political Science syllabus.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the decision follows protests by the BJP’s student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) over the inclusion of Jinnah in the revised syllabus.

The Departmental Affairs Committee (DAC) of the University of Jammu unanimously resolved to recommend the removal of topics concerning Jinnah, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, and Iqbal from the course content of the one-year and two-year postgraduate programs. The recommendation has been forwarded to the Board of Studies (BoS) for consideration, with a meeting scheduled for March 24.

The proposal is now with the Board of Studies, which will make a final decision on March 24. The move has been welcomed by ABVP, which had staged protests demanding the withdrawal of the chapter.

Kashmiri Muslims while expressing anger over the decision said that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s demand for a separate homeland was justified as it was rooted in the Two-Nation Theory, which posited that Hindus and Muslims were distinct nations with incompatible cultures, traditions, and ways of life. This perspective was shaped by the perceived biases and narrow-mindedness of the Indian National Congress, which Jinnah believed would marginalize Muslims in a Hindu-dominated India.
