JKLF denounces sentencing of Aasiya Andrabi and associates, calls Indian court’s verdict political suppression

Islamabad: The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has strongly condemned the Indian court’s decision to sentence senior Hurriyat leader Aasiya Andrabi and her two associates in a fabricated case.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement in Islamabad, the JKLF’s chief spokesman, Muhammad Rafiq Dar, termed the life sentence given to Syeda Aasiya Andrabi, the chief of Dukhtar-e-Millat, and the 30-year sentence handed to her two associates, Nahida Nasreen and Fehmida Sofi, as part of a broader political vendetta on part of New Delhi.

He condemned the continued illegal detention of Hurriyat leaders who have been struggling for the UN-recognized right to self-determination for the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Dar pointed out that the Modi-led Indian government has been actively trying to subdue pro-freedom voices through judiciary. However, he emphasized that despite the repression, the Kashmiri pro-freedom leadership remains committed to the just cause of freedom from Indian illegal occupation.

Rafiq Dar appealed to the United Nations and the world community to intervene and help resolve long pending Kashmir dispute at earliest. He also called for the immediate and unconditional release of detained leaders, including APHC chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Aasiya Andrabi, and others, and demanded the withdrawal of all politically motivated charges against them.

Meanwhile, the JKLF spokesperson, on behalf of the party leadership, expressed deep sorrow and grief over the death of the father of jailed senior JKLF leader, Saleem Nanaji. While extending condolences to the mourning family, Dar prayed for the eternal peace and highest place in Jannah for the deceased soul.
