Kashmiris rally behind war-hit Iran, auction 50 paisa coin for Rs 17,000

Kashmir's piggy banks and gold: Child's 50-paise coin fetches Rs 17,000 in emotional Iran relief auction

Srinagar: In a bold show of solidarity with Iran, Kashmiris have raised over Rs 3 lakh for the war-hit nation through an auction drive in Srinagar’s Mir Behri locality, defying India’s alignment with US and Israel.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the highlight of the drive was a 50 paisa coin, out of circulation for years, which fetched a staggering Rs 17,000. The coin belonged to a 5-year-old boy who donated his piggy bank savings to the cause.

“The emotions were palpable as people bid for the coin, finally settled by Javaid Ahmad Sufi,” said Nasir Ahmad, a local. Sufi humbly stated, “It was the Grace of Allah that I got it.”

The donation drive saw an outpouring of generosity, with women donating gold jewelry, copper utensils, and livestock. Children also pitched in, donating their savings and pocket money.
