MMU slams NC MLA’s remarks on liquor sales, calls for complete ban

Srinagar: The Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) has strongly condemned National Conference MLA Hasnain Masoodi’s remarks justifying liquor sales in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir for revenue benefits.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the MMU termed Masoodi’s statement “reckless and deeply unfortunate,” saying it ignores the grave social consequences of liquor consumption and is at odds with Islamic values.

The MMU questioned the NC’s stance, asking it to “come clean on the matter” and take steps towards a complete ban on liquor in IIOJK. “Economic considerations cannot be placed above moral, social, and human well-being,” the MMU said.

The organization, representing various religious and educational institutions, called for strict punishment for those involved in liquor smuggling and urged the government to prioritize the welfare of society.
