Political, social circles criticize Yogi Adityanath’s anti-Muslim statement

New Delhi: Political and social circles have reacted strongly to the controversial anti-Muslim statement made by Adityanath, the Hindutva Chief Minister of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Yogi Adityanath, while addressing an event in the state of Assam, had made a derogatory remark against Muslims and said that the Hindutva Bharatiya Janata Party could expel Muslims from Assam.

He had claimed that every Muslim can be identified and expelled from the state. In the state of Uttar Pradesh, no Muslim will now be allowed to offer prayers on the streets, while loud calls to prayer, prayers or announcements from places of worship have also been banned.

These statements by Yogi Adityanath are being strongly criticized by various quarters, while human rights activists say that these controversial statements can affect religious harmony and further increase social division.

This statement by Yogi Adityanath has come at a time when debates regarding religious freedom and minority rights have already intensified in India.
