Sonam Wangchuk gets warm welcome in Kargil, calls for equal rights

Kargil: Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk received a warm welcome in Kargil, urging unity across Ladakh, and reiterating demands for democratic and constitutional rights for the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, this marked his first visit to Kargil after release from nearly six months of illegal detention under the draconian law.
Wangchuk emphasized unity, saying, “What should unite us is humanity. We should not get divided into ‘this side’ or ‘that side,’ nor into religion or sect, we must come closer to one another, not drift apart”.
Leaders of Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) and Leh Apex Body (LAB) pressed for talks, warning delays could intensify the movement. Wangchuk’s release was termed “a victory of our honesty and our truth” by Ladakh MP Haneefa Jan, who urged sincere dialogue.
