IIOJK Congress welcomes ceasefire, lays stress on structured peace process

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress local chapter has welcomed the Pakistan-brokered ceasefire between Iran and the United States, urging that the development be transformed into a credible and structured peace process.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Congress IIOJK President, Tariq Hameed Karra, in a statement issued in Srinagar, described the ceasefire as a prudent and timely step towards restoring stability in an increasingly fragile global environment.

“I welcome the ceasefire between Iran and the US as a prudent and timely step towards restoring stability in an increasingly fragile global environment,” he said.

Karra stated that the ceasefire reflects a growing global realisation that sustainable peace cannot emerge from prolonged confrontation, but rather from balanced engagement that respects sovereignty, acknowledges legitimate concerns and preserves the dignity of nations.

He stressed that the international community must now act responsibly to convert the ceasefire into a meaningful and structured peace process. “This pause must be transformed into a credible framework where dialogue replaces distrust and stability is pursued without compromising fundamental principles,” he added.

Drawing a historical parallel, Tariq Hameed Karra said the 40-day duration of the recent confrontation bears resemblance to the Battle of Khaybar, which also lasted around 40 days. He said such moments symbolize endurance, strategic patience and clarity of purpose in the face of sustained pressure.

He remarked that history shows lasting influence is not shaped merely by force, but by composure and firmness in upholding one’s position. “The message from these 40 days is clear: restraint, backed by resolve, ultimately shapes the pathway to peace,” he maintained.

The Congress president reiterated the need for continued diplomatic engagement to ensure long-term regional and global stability.
