Three booked for Palestine flag at Milad-un-Nabi gathering in Karnataka
Bengaluru: Police in Karnataka have registered a case against three individuals for displaying a Palestine flag on a cutout being prepared for Milad-un-Nabi celebrations in RML Nagar, in an incident highlighting growing scrutiny over the display of Muslim and pro-Palestinian symbols in Modi’s India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Nihal, also known as Bekku, Umar and Abrahar have been named in the First Information Report (FIR). The FIR alleged that the three men climbed the cutout, fixed the Palestinian flag and recorded the act, which was later circulated on Instagram.
Police claimed that the act risked creating tension between communities, fostering hostility and disrupting public peace. The three have reportedly been booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with an investigation underway.
Authorities have appealed to the public to refrain from sharing provocative material or engaging in actions that might disturb public order and inter-community relations.
The case comes amid wider concerns over the treatment of Muslim and pro-Palestinian symbols in India, where displays of Palestinian flags and expressions of solidarity with Palestinians have previously drawn police action and arrests.
