Prayer meeting held at Jamia Masjid Srinagar to remember Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a special prayer meeting was held at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar to mark the 37th martyrdom anniversary of prominent liberation leader Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq (RA) observed on the 25th of Shawwal 1447 AH.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Srinagar on May 21, 1990 (25 Shawwal 1410 AH). On the same day, 70 mourners were killed when Indian troops resorted to indiscriminate firing on his funeral procession in Hawal area of the city.
Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid, in a statement in Srinagar, said that Du‘a Majlis was held at the historic mosque where a large people offered prayers for Shaheed-e-Millat Molvi Muhammad Farooq and the martyrs of Hawal.
The statement said that the widely respected and beloved leader, till his last breath, courageously guided and represented the people on religious, social, and political fronts. “His unwavering commitment and fearless leadership ultimately led him to embrace martyrdom, leaving behind a profound and enduring legacy.”
The Auqaf also appealed to all Imams of mosques and worshippers to offer special supplications during the prayers for the elevation of the ranks of the martyred leader and all his companions.
